What is changing?
As of February 8, 2024, Let's Encrypt no longer provides the cross-signed certificates by default. By June 6, 2024, the cross-signed certificate was fully discontinued.
This change impacts users of Android 6 and 7 because these versions lack updates to recognize newer certificate authorities (CAs) used by Let's Encrypt. Previously, these older devices relied on the cross-signed arrangement for certificate recognition. With its discontinuation, Android 6 and 7 devices no longer trust Let's Encrypt certificates.
To maintain support for devices running Android 6 through Android 7.1.1, clients integrating the Futurae Android SDK should update to Futurae Android SDK v2.5.9 or higher by August 31, 2024 which seamlessly imports and trusts Let's Encrypt's ISRG Root X1 SSL certificate.
For more details, please refer to the official Let's Encrypt Announcement.
